2003 NightWatch Charter, a Historical Look.

We are the Charter Members of the Nightwatch. We serve the innocent. We protect the clanless. We vanguard the innocent victims of crimes outside clanwars. We inform newcomers of the law. We protect those who provide services to the community, and avenge desecration of the historical sites and landmarks of our city.

Those who stalk, extort, and use foul language with the intent of hurting players OOC and IRL may count themselves as our enemies. Those who splash Holy Water without cause may fear us. No longer have the citizens of our city need to tolerate such action, for we are the Nightwatch, and we stand ever vigilant, and strive for justice.

Those who steal and sabotage services such as the lottery take attention, for these acts will no longer go unpunished. Those who desecrate the graveyard may put themselves at the very top of the list, for we WILL NOT STOP until justice is served!

Natural justice is a man-made theory; it is not a reality. In nature, justice is purely theoretic, wholly a fiction. Nature provides but one kind of justice--inevitable conformity of results to causes. Natural Justice is merely chaos and disorder. Anarchy. In our city, we the members of the Nightwatch provide justice. Enduring liberty is predicated on the reality of justice--intelligence, maturity, fraternity, and equity. Liberty is suicidal when divorced from material justice, intellectual fairness, social forbearance, and moral duty. In this way the Nightwatch provides Justice and keeps the citizens of our city free.

We, the charter members of the Nightwatch excercise our authority granted to us by the individual clans. We serve no master but society. We do not make law, but merely enforce it. Laws are written by the ambassadors of individual clans. In this way our actions are sanctioned directly from the individuals of our society, and by the various clans who represent them.

Two wit, We the Charter members of the Nightwatch affix our names to this historic document and swear our allegiance to Justice!
